365/365: Thank You! (but not goodbye)

It’s the last day of the Sprouts Press 365 project! It’s been a fun year sharing my journey as an artisan and creative small business owner. I’ve enjoyed all your comments and likes, I hope you’ve enjoyed it as well.

I plan to continue blogging about Sprouts Press, my creative process, goings-on and other book-ish content, but it won’t be every day. I’m looking forward to seeing what sort of content I’m capable of on a more relaxed schedule, and sharing the growth of my little company. In the meantime, enjoy this collage of many of the books I’ve shared with you over the year! That’s a lot of books!!

The Studio on a Sunday

Day 334/365If you’ve been following my Instagram, or other social media feeds, then you’ll know that one of my favourite processes is to dye paper with indigo. Well, this sunday was no exception as I spent some time at the Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild, fondly referred to as CBBAG (pronounced ‘cabbage’), where there was an indigo dyeing session. photo 5_fotor

It was a small group of creative women, all of us eager to stretch our creative muscles. People dyed paper, fabric, string, yarn, thread and even buttons!! (I contemplated dyeing a bit of my hair, but chickened out in the end). As these things usually go, what felt like an hour was actually 4 and the day came to an end before we knew it.
Some of the results were really gorgeous – I can’t wait to see the projects these gems become!

Day 333/365

It’s official! The coundown is on to the 2nd annual Etsy Made in Canada: Toronto! The show will be at the MaRS building again this year, showcasing the best of the best of Canadian Etsy sellers here in the city!

There are some sweet surprises planned for this year, so keep your eyes peeled! And if you’re eager to get one of the free swag bags, be sure to get there early! There are only 100 of them and last year people started lining up hours in advance.

The Studio on a Sunday

Today I was in a different studio than my own, playing with indigo dye. However, I’ll save that for another day.

In the meantime here’s a photo from earlier this week of the first step to my hand painted notebooks. This is what the covers look like before I cut them up. Sometimes it’s hard to make that first cut when really is rather keep the piece for myself. But, they do make lovely notebooks that someone will cherish!

New in the Shop

Day 318/365Introducing the newest addition to the Indigo Journal series! I’ve tried something a little different with this cover, opting for a more organic colour block effect. I love how it turned out!!

As always, the covers are hand-dyed by yours truly, and the book is also handbound by me. I love this series of journals, they’re the perfect size to throw in a daybag and take with you, and pretty enough that whatever you put on the pages will feel special!

Mark your calendars!! I’ll be at the Blossom and Bloom show this saturday alongside many other talented makers and craftspeople!

If you’re wondering what this show is all about, here’s a snippet of the concept behind this show. ‘A public outdoor market showcasing Canadian creative businesses, local florists, artists and artisans in a single event’. To learn more about their vision and what else to do when in Unionville for the show, go here (it’s a gorgeous little town, seriously worth checking out!)

Day 263/365I’m pleased to say that I’ll be participating in the next Blossom and Bloom show in less than 3 weeks! Located in picturesque Unionville, in the courtyard of the Varley Art Gallery, this is going to be a show worth checking out! I’ll be there with my handbound books, alongside a curated selection of talented makers, live music, and floral designers.

I’ll be there for just one day, on Sunday July 12 from 11am – 4pm.

The gallery is located at 216 Main Street, Unionville.

Bonus: Admission & parking are free!
