New Bookbinding Class – This Fall!

I’ve got a brand new class coming up! It’s for all of you who know the basics of bookbinding and are looking for the next skill to build on what you’ve already learned.

It’s a two day class, and I’ll teach a variation of the Coptic stitch, and some fun contemporary variations of stab bindings. I’ll also be teaching two different styles of hard covers!!

What: Coptic & Stab Bindings: Exposing the Possibilities
When: Saturday September 15 & Sunday September 16, 2018: 10am – 5pm

The Studio on a Sunday

Today in the studio, I’m finalizing details and such for a really exciting lineup of summer/fall workshops!!

For all those who’ve exhausted the options I offer and have taken ALL my classes (you know who you are!!) I’m happy to announce that there are some new classes coming soon! There will be some slightly more advanced/intermediate classes. So now’s the time to whip out your bookbinding tools and brush up!!

Studio Sunday (on a Monday!)

Yesterday was my last bookbinding workshop for 2015! I’m so happy with the response these classes have received, and how eager people in learning to make their own handbound books!!With that in mind, I’m pleased to announce that there are some new workshops for 2016! I’ve kept everyone’s favourites and added a couple of new classes (and a new location!) to the roster. While you don’t have to have any prior bookbinding experience to take my classes, they are great chance to dust off your bookbinding skills and get a refresher in technique.

Longstitch/Linkstitch Bookbinding Workshop
When: Sunday January 24, 1pm – 4pm & Sunday March 13, 1pm – 4pm.

Hard Cover Arrow Stitch Journal Workshop
When: Sunday February 28, 1pm – 4pm & Sunday April 17, 1pm – 4pm

Creative Coptic Bookbinding Workshop

When: Sunday February 21, 2016. 10am – 5pm

Hard Cover Coptic Bookbinding Workshop

When: Sunday March 6, 2016. 10am – 4pm

Where: Guelph School of Art, 125 Wyndham St. North. Guelph, Ontario.

Pro Tip: Workshops are a great gift for that hard-to-buy-for person on your holiday shopping list, especially if you plan a day of it and take the class together! (Most of my Toronto workshops start at 1pm, why not go for brunch and then a class?)

Day 334/365If you’ve been following my Instagram, or other social media feeds, then you’ll know that one of my favourite processes is to dye paper with indigo. Well, this sunday was no exception as I spent some time at the Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild, fondly referred to as CBBAG (pronounced ‘cabbage’), where there was an indigo dyeing session. photo 5_fotor

It was a small group of creative women, all of us eager to stretch our creative muscles. People dyed paper, fabric, string, yarn, thread and even buttons!! (I contemplated dyeing a bit of my hair, but chickened out in the end). As these things usually go, what felt like an hour was actually 4 and the day came to an end before we knew it.
Some of the results were really gorgeous – I can’t wait to see the projects these gems become!
