Tall Journal
In case you haven’t guessed, this journal is pretty tall. Not too tall, but enough to warrant the title.
Okay, silliness aside, this is the latest addition to my Etsy shop! It’s actually part of the Fancy Coptic series of books, featuring my hand-dyed washi paper in a rich brown. It’s a chunky book with 220 pages (front and back), making it perfect for people who go through journals quickly.
As always, the closure is made from reclaimed leather and completed with a brass button stud. One of the main highlights of this book, and all of the books using my hand-dyed washi paper covers, is the fact that it’s one of a kind. The process of hand-dying paper yields different results every time, making each journal unique.

The Studio On a Sunday
Day 194/365

It’s paper-dying time! Believe it or not, I used all my hand-dyed paper from the last session! This batch focused on shades of indigo, as opposed to last time where I also used greens and browns.
Huge thanks to everyone that showed so much enthusiasm for journals with this unique and one of a kind cover! Stay tuned for more indigo journals!!
The Studio on a Monday
Day 181/365
Today I’m prepping the studio for more paper dying! I love this process and the results, it’s a different kind of creativity than stitching books with a needle and thread. I miss getting paint under my nails and losing myself in the work, so it’s a welcome change of pace for a day.
These are photos from a previous paper-dying session, so I’ll be sure to take some new ones and share the ‘after’ photos this time around!

Day 176/365

I don’t usually pick favourites, but this one is my favourite!
Day 144/365
This journal is #3 in a series of the hand dyed washi cover journals. I posted about the other two journals in this series a little while ago but felt this one deserved it’s own post. It’s my favourite in the series. I think it’s purely aesthetics, but I love the way the covers turned out. They are simple yet beautiful.
To read more about the process of hand dying washi paper, read about it here and here. Each paper comes out a bit differently than the other, making each book one of a kind and truly unique!
Indigo, Florentine and Fabric!
Day 135/365
After posting my latest instalment of Use Your Journal, I realized that there were only two Starburst Journals in my Etsy shop. I’m happy to say that I’ve taken some time to put these ones together and list them online.
These are quite possibly my favourite books to bind. I love the possibilities for covers and the stitching patterns created on the spine. Even better? It lays flat when open!
This book is the first of two that are full fabric covers. And it’s my own handmade bookcloth! I’m proud of these journals, the full fabric makes them very tactile. Perfect for a cozy afternoon of sketching/journalling/album making with a cup of tea by a toasty fire.
Party at Paperhouse!
Day 77/365
There was a festive party at Paperhouse Studio last weekend! And you know what that means . . .
There was paper to be made as ornaments, prints to be pulled as gift tags and a few other crafty activities revolving around paper. My kind of party! The lovely Pam from Graven Feather was also there to guide us on using this cute little table top press.
A view of the many paper ornaments and garland, all made in house and by collaborating artists. And some other paper drying on the windows, because that’s the proper way to dry gampi paper. (seriously, it is. I’m not kidding).
It was really nice to kick back and enjoy an evening with fellow paper artists and printmakers! Also, Paperhouse hosts workshops throughout the year, check out their website to see what’s next!
The Coptic Indigo Journal
Day 73/365
You may remember when I posted about the Indigo Journal back in October. I had shown a small journal created with my fancy-pants hand dyed indigo paper. Well, now I’d like to share this larger, one of a kind, really pretty variation: The Large Coptic Indigo Journal!
Measuring 8″ x 10″, with reclaimed leather and brass button closure, this is a pretty nice journal for sketching or writing full-out.
I managed to dig up some photos showing the hand-dying process, and I’m pretty sure I found the exact hand-dying of this sheet of paper!

And of course the hand dying was all done here in Toronto at Paperhouse Studios. While it is difficult to cut up these papers, especially after the work that goes into making them, it’s pretty fantastic seeing how the book cover acts as a frame, capturing a portion of the paper.
