Sprouts Press + Brika

Screen Shot 2016-04-06 at 10.43.16 AM

I’m so happy to announce that you can now find Sprouts Press products on Brika.com!!  Woot!!  I’ve been impressed with this site and it’s well-curated collection of handmade items for a while now.  So naturally, I’m over the moon to be the featured maker this week!!

Part of this feature is an interview, a great Q & A to give you a bit more insight into what I do and why.  Here’s a snippet:

“Carolyn Eady’s first job was at the public library, back when she was starting high school. She loved reading and writing before, but this constant exposure to books and the world of publications was new to her. She was blown away by the diversity of what a book could be, and loved every minute of it”.

Sampler Bookbinding Workshop *NEW*

photo 1

Good news for folks learning the craft of hand bookbinding with me: I’ve got a brand new workshop being offered at Graven Feather!

It’s a Sampler Workshop!  This means I’ll be teaching three different bindings, and we’ll be focusing on the technique rather than making a ‘pretty’ finished project.  I’ve chosen fairly straightforward, easy to remember bindings that lend themselves well to projects you might want to make on your own, at home.  These are good bindings to help build your bookbinding repertoire.

What: Sampler Bookbinding Workshop
When: Sunday April 10, 1pm – 4pm
Where: Graven Feather 906 Queen Street West, Toronto

The Studio on a Sunday

DSC_0747_fotor

It might be Studio Sunday, but really I’m spending time with family.

I usually bake a nice, festive sweet bread to share with my family on Easter.  But this year’s gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan version of chocolate babka is less than stellar (unless the goal is to be the most unedible).  So instead I’m sharing a nice picture of some spring-like notebooks that are available in my Etsy shop!

I’ll be back next week with updates, announcements and something REALLY exciting you don’t want to miss!!!  Happy Easter!

St.Paddy’s Day!

Leap!

This is a Studio on a Sunday (on a Monday) post, with a theme: Leap! (because it’s February 29, get it??)
photo-29_fotor

If you’ve followed along here for a while, you’ll know that our Spring 2016 workshop programming is moving along, with some new classes being offered in addition to the favourites.  This weekend was no exception, as the Arrow Stitch Workshop took place at Graven Feather on Sunday.

Getting to the theme of this post, Leap, I wanted to take a moment to say a big Thank You to everyone who comes out to my workshops.  There are quite a few people new to bookbinding that come out to try their hand at this craft.

While it’s fun and exciting, I realize that it can also be a bit daunting at first.  I’m always so proud when, at the end of class, everybody takes a step back and admires the handiwork and craftsmanship they might not have known they were capable of.  To me, this is taking a leap; to trust yourself and your abilities.  Maybe it isn’t bookbinding for everyone, maybe something else, but taking a leap and learning about yourself (ourselves) is always rewarding and so worth it!  Thank you!
