Party at Paperhouse!

Day 77/365

photo 1

There was a festive party at Paperhouse Studio last weekend!  And you know what that means . . . photo 2 There was paper to be made as ornaments, prints to be pulled as gift tags and a few other crafty activities revolving around paper.  My kind of party!  The lovely Pam from Graven Feather was also there to guide us on using this cute little table top press.photo 4

A view of the many paper ornaments and garland, all made in house and by collaborating artists.  And some other paper drying on the windows, because that’s the proper way to dry gampi paper.  (seriously, it is.  I’m not kidding). photo 5

It was really nice to kick back and enjoy an evening with fellow paper artists and printmakers!  Also, Paperhouse hosts workshops throughout the year, check out their website to see what’s next!

It’s been so great teaching my craft to those who are willing to give it a try.

Ornament Making

Day 39/365

photo1If you’ve started thinking about the holidays and where to start, I may have the answer for you.  In one week I’ll be teaching an Ornament Making Workshop over at the Arts Market on College.  It’s the perfect way to start off the season!

This is a hands-on workshop where you’ll create a personalized, unique book ornament. We will touch on the basics first, and then dive into the main project – you will leave with your very own handcrafted ornament!

No previous art or bookmaking experience is necessary.

For more information or to register, go here.

Book Ornaments!

Day 31/365OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Who doesn’t love a good book ornament?  I started making these for myself, then friends and family, and then I finally realized I should be selling them.  They’re now in my online shop.

Bonus: I’m teaching a book ornament making workshop later in the month!  We won’t be making this style of ornament, but it will still be a lovely little book you can hang for the holidays or anytime of the year.

Day 28/365photo1

It seems to be the time of year; the garden is pulled out, the air is crisp and we all start thinking about cozy indoor activities.  So, without further ado, please won’t you join me next saturday at my next book making workshop!

I will be teaching the Longstitch/Linkstitch binding, which is the same binding as last weekend’s class, but we will be collaging the covers into beautiful art books.  It’s so much fun!

For more information and to register, please go here.

A Lovely Saturday

Day 25/365

Today I had the pleasure of teaching a wonderful group of ladies the Longstitch/Linkstitch binding.  We were at Graven Feather, a fantastic printmaking studio and gallery, here in Toronto on Queen St. West.  photo 1

I love seeing the different styles and colours each person is drawn to and the details put into each book.  Everyone was happy with their journal and enjoyed learning a new skill!  Welcome to the world of bookbinding!!

It’s workshop time!  This saturday I’m excited to be teaching a bookbinding class at the amazing Graven Feather Gallery/Printmaking studio!  This is a creative hands-on class geared for all skill levels.  I love teaching this workshop, especially when the room goes quiet and everyone is completely and wholeheartedly engrossed in their projects.  It’s so wonderful to see people just let go and allow their unique creativity really shine!

The photo above is from a previous class taught there, a similar class will happen this saturday (November 1).  But it’s not just bookbinding, we’ll be getting creative designing and decorating covers!  Sound like fun?  Go here for more information and to register.

A Workshop!

Day 16/365

Just a friendly reminder: my Coptic Binding Workshop is this sunday at Arts Market!  It’ll be loads of fun, with light refreshment, merriment and a great way to learn a new skill (or brush up on old an old skill).  Also, it’s just in time to start on making holiday gifts, if that’s your sort of thing.

Find out more here.

If you can’t make this one, don’t fret, there are a few more dates on the Workshops tab of my site, and there are a few more in the works for november and december.  I’ll announce them shortly.

Coptic Binding

Day 11/365

photo1

Next weekend is the Coptic Bookbinding Class I’ll be teaching at the Arts Market on College!  This is a great hands-on class that teaches how to make a really nice hard cover journal.  Participants will leave with a finished journal, made from scratch!

I personally love the coptic binding for its immediacy as a non-adhesive binding (we will be pasting covers though, but the binding itself is non-adhesive).  Once the basic stitch is learned there are many variation possibilities, making this a very versatile binding technique.

It’s a great way to get started on personalized holiday gifts, too.

It runs on Sunday, October 26 11:30am – 2:30pm.  Go here to learn more and see how to register, or check out my workshops page for other upcoming dates.
