The Studio on a Sunday

Ornaments, ornaments, so many ornaments!!  I’m taking a little break from the more serious bookbinding tasks/holiday show prep and making some fun little Starburst Book Ornaments.

Those who follow along here regularly will recognize these pieces from last year.  They were so popular (I sold out before the holiday shipping deadline!!) that I brought them back this year!

To see them all, go here.

*Fun tip: can you guess what book I chose for the inside pages?  (Hint: There’s more than one, and they’re both classics!)

Today in the studio.  Well, the last several weeks in the studio, really. It’s crunch time and my studio is buzzing with activity as I prep for the One of a Kind Show and Sale.  With less than a month to go (gasp!) I’ve got some of the popular books ready to go, but I’m also working on some new items, which I’ll share in a little bit.  For now, it’s back to the studio!

DSC_0706Today I’m finishing up enough Canadiana Journals to last through the holiday season, that’s the plan anyways!!  Take a look at some of the new colours I’m introducing, great for gift giving to the dapper Canuck on your list.

See one of the listings here, more to come over the next week.

Day 363/365photo-23Today in the studio I’m tackling leather journals!  I’m completely out of them in the Etsy shop, so I figured it’s time to restock.  First ones should be online early next week.

This time around I’m keeping it simple; one size, one stitch style, and just a few neutral colour choices.  There may be some options for personalization in the near future!!  Keep your eyes peeled for this exciting development!!

Day 349/365

photo 2This past week I’ve been in full swing preparing for Etsy: Made in Canada, Toronto edition at the MaRS building.

I’ve been working hard at re-designing some of my books and I can’t wait to share the new and improved Adventure Journal with you at the show!
photo 1 This is a small sampling of what many Adventure Journals looks like!  These guys aren’t quite done yet, but almost there.  I love how each is a bit different from the maps on the covers to the scuffs and nicks in the reclaimed leather closures.  These are my favourite journals!!

Day 315/365DSC_0714A few Studio Sundays ago I shared some ‘in progress’ photos of a custom wedding guest book I made.  I thought it would be fun to follow up and share some photos of the completed piece.  I’m really pleased with the finished product and so were they!DSC_0705_fotorI especially like the deep purple along the spine, which plays many important roles in this binding.  First, it looks good (if I do say so myself!) and picks up the floral pattern on the covers, it really showcases the stitching along the spine and adds a bit of durability to the binding.  However, those familiar with the coptic binding, also know that it’s an exposed spine binding.  This means that there’s a small gap between the signatures when the book is open.  This is just the nature of the binding.  But by adding the purple along the spine, it seals the gaps and allows the possibility of tucking paper ephemera and other mementos between the pages!

I love unique projects and welcome custom orders, however holiday season is just around the corner and a busy time!  If you have an idea for a special gift, get in touch soon so I’ll have time to make your book and avoid disappointment.  To start, just answer a few questions here, then I’ll get in touch with a quote and we can work from there.  Easy peasy!

Day 304/365

The latest project: a custom guest book/travel book for a destination wedding!  DSC_07130_fotor

This is an exciting combination of scrapbooking, memory-making, journalling and special messages to the happy couple!  Imagine what an incredible collection of memories it’ll be to share with family and friends for years to come.

I’m always so honoured to work on projects like these.  Especially when given a bit of creative freedom and people put their trust in me to create a book that not only captures the memories of the special day, but also the atmosphere and vibe of the event.

If you have an idea for a special book, click Custom Order along the top menu bar and send me some information about your project!  I’ll get back to you with a few more questions and then follow up details – easy peasy!!
