Bookbinding Class at Paperhouse Studio

Something new for Sprouts Press is about to start!  I’ll be teaching two workshops in a new space: Paperhouse Studios!  This is a gorgeous, light-filled studio where all sorts of paper arts and creativity happens.  If you haven’t been there before and you’ve signed up for this class, it’s worth arriving a bit early to get a tea, check out the Koffler Gallery and the general community of the building.

An excerpt from the course description:
“Students will be introduced to the basics of decorating cover paper with acrylic paint and a variety of tools.  Followed by a quick introduction to bookbinding and the tools of the trade, students will then learn the Longstitch/Linkstitch bookbinding technique and incorporate the decorated papers.”

Sampler Workshop

This coming saturday I’ll be offering a Bookbinding Sampler Workshop at the new Toronto Etsy Street Team bricks and mortar location! (formerly Graven Feather)

Spend an afternoon learning the basics of bookbinding and the tools of the trade. In this workshop, students will learn 3 simple softcover bindings. This is a hands-on class and everyone will leave with 3 small sample books.

Bookbinding for Beginners

It’s the start of a new space for the Toronto Etsy Street Team at 906 Queen Street West here in Toronto!  And I’m so happy to share that I’ll be offering my Bookbinding Sampler Workshop for Beginners at this new space (formerly Graven Feather).

Workshop Wednesday!

Join me on Wednesday April 12 from 6:30pm – 9:30pm for a beginner class in bookbinding!

Everyone will hand bind their own notebook using traditional bookbinding techniques, and then letterpress print the cover on one of the vintage presses at the museum.

Springtime Workshop Addition!!

I know it’s cold and wintery here in Toronto right now, but I’ve been working away planning springtime workshops!  The newest addition to the schedule is the return of the Coptic Stitch class over at Toronto’s First Post Office.  dsc_0682We’ll cover the basics of bookbinding, go over the tools of the trade and then learn how to put it all together into a beautiful handcrafted journal. This is a hands-on class and students will leave with a finished project.

All materials are supplied. This workshop is intended for adults. This is a great introduction to bookbinding, and also suitable for more experienced paper crafters, looking for a refresher.

Flexagons: the BEST kind of hexagons!

collageitFlexagons: the blending of a flex and a hexagon into an intriguing and creative piece of paper art.

Join me for an evening of exploration and creativity in a hands on workshop where you’ll not only learn the secrets of a flexagon, but create your very own!!  We’ll be making a variation of a flexagon with 6 faces that are hidden within, and revealed when the piece is ‘flexed’.

Studio Sunday

dsc_0707While I’m taking a day off today, yesterday I was at CBBAG (Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild).  I was teaching folks the joys of deconstructing old books and making them into new ones using the coptic stitch.

photo-5-5Today I’m over at the Guelph School of Art teaching folks the ins and outs of coptic bookbinding.  Look at those gorgeous windows and all that natural light!!
