Studio Sunday (on a Monday)

photo-12_fotor_fotor

It seems that I’m spending many Sundays in other people’s studios these days.  And yesterday was no exception.  I was over at Graven Feather teaching a lovely group the Longstitch/Linkstitch binding and the results were beautiful!

I have a few more classes scheduled for the fall, be sure to check my Workshops page to see them all.  Who knows, maybe you’ll start that handmade holiday gift in September this year!  Or maybe taking a class and learning a new skill is the perfect, unique gift for the person who has everything.

Have you taken a look at the Sprouts Press workshops page lately?  There’s a lot of activity going on!  And the next class is this saturday at the Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild here in Toronto!

It’s a fun class of dissecting old books and re-binding them into new, blank journals!  It’s aptly titled: Deconstructed & Reclaimed: From discarded novel to Coptic journal, go here to see details.

While this class is full, you can still join the waitlist or take a look at the other class I’m teaching at CBBAG later in the fall; the Caterpillar Stitch!  Go here to see that class (aren’t you just a bit curious??)

Arrow Stitch in August

DSC_0702After a brief hiatus while we take some much needed time off to rest and rejuvenate, it’s time to start offering Bookbinding Workshops again!

First up is the Hard Cover Arrow Stitch Journal!  I really like this class because you not only learn the binding, but how to make a hard cover as well.  If you’ve dabbled in bookbinding at all, you’ll know how valuable a skill this is!!

What: Hard Cover Arrow Stitch Workshop
When: August 21, 1pm – 4pm
Where: Graven Feather, 906 Queen Street West, Toronto

A Bookbinding Workshop at a Print Museum

photo-31

Just a couple of days ago I had the pleasure of teaching a workshop alongside these fine fellows at Mackenzie House Museum here in Toronto.  It was a combination bookbinding & printmaking class, geared at learning traditional techniques and using analogue tools and equipment.  It was great fun, everyone left with a unique journal they handbound and then printed themselves!

The entire month of April is Print Month over at Mackenzie House!  There are more printmaking events happening at the museum, see their website for details.
