Studio Sunday (on a Monday)

This isn’t my studio, and it’s not Sunday, but I don’t care because this was a great weekend of bookbinding.
On Saturday I had the pleasure of teaching my craft to a really wonderful group of people at the Burlington Public Library’s ‘Bookbinding Hub’. We learned the magic of painting your own covers, and turning them into handbound books.

It was a fun afternoon, and look at the results; gorgeous notebooks all around!
If you missed this class and want to join the fun, keep an eye on the Workshops section of my site for upcoming classes.

Variations on Coptic Journals
Today I’m busy binding books and keeping abreast of the ‘make everything in time for holiday shows’ schedule. But I’m also pondering this design from a couple of years ago. Specifically, the bound-in bookmarks, complete with bead and coin detail (or without).
Personally, I love bookmarks in my journals, for easy access to the next blank page. I think they also add a bit of a finishing touch and complete the experience of using the book. But what about in larger books? Sketchbook size? If you have any thoughts on this, I’d love to know! Leave a comment below.

Printed Logbooks
Just over a year ago I introduced a project I’d been working on for a while; printed logbooks! This was a design inspired by feedback from customers, at shows and online, who wanted handbound journals with specific purposes and printed pages.
I’m so happy to say that they’ve grown to include 3 designs; Correspondence Journals, Reader’s Logbooks and Recipe Journals. And, of course, the colour selection has increased because I just can’t help myself.
To learn more about these books, check them out in my Etsy shop here. And if you want to read the original post I wrote about them (the one from a year ago), just go here.
