Studio Sunday (on a Monday)

This isn’t my studio, and it’s not Sunday, but I don’t care because this was a great weekend of bookbinding.

On Saturday I had the pleasure of teaching my craft to a really wonderful group of people at the Burlington Public Library’s ‘Bookbinding Hub’. We learned the magic of painting your own covers, and turning them into handbound books.

It was a fun afternoon, and look at the results; gorgeous notebooks all around!

If you missed this class and want to join the fun, keep an eye on the Workshops section of my site for upcoming classes.

Stay in the loop!

Where: Brant Hills Branch, Burlington Public Library.  2255 Brant Street, Burlington, ON

Variations on Coptic Journals

Today I’m busy binding books and keeping abreast of the ‘make everything in time for holiday shows’ schedule.  But I’m also pondering this design from a couple of years ago.  Specifically, the bound-in bookmarks, complete with bead and coin detail (or without).

Personally, I love bookmarks in my journals, for easy access to the next blank page.  I think they also add a bit of a finishing touch and complete the experience of using the book.  But what about in larger books?  Sketchbook size?  If you have any thoughts on this, I’d love to know!  Leave a comment below.

Thank You!

Thank you to everyone who came out and supported me at the Etsy: Made in Canada show last saturday!  And to everyone who liked, shared and commented on my social media posts!!  I truly appreciate all of it and am humbled by your support of my little bookbinding company.

Making Artist’s Books: Join me!

Even though it’s not till the end of the month, I’m really looking forward to this new bookbinding class I’ll be teaching at CBBAG; ‘End to End Artist’s Books’!

It’s a collaborative-style class, where we all work together to create a gorgeous intermingling cover. Then I’ll teach everyone a few bookbinding techniques using these covers.  Everyone leaves with a finished project, and all skill levels are welcome!

When: Saturday September 3 – Sunday October 1: 10am – 5pm both days
